HISTORY OF GUANAJUATO, MEXICO.

During the regime of President Benito Juarez, Guanajuato was the temporary capital of the Republic of Mexico.In 1903 General Porfirio Diaz, then president of Mexico, inaugurated the Teatro Juarez (Juarez Theater), the Palacio de Gobierno (GovernmentPalace), the Monumento de la Paz (Monument to Peace), the Monumento a Hidalgo (HidalgoMonument).


In 1945, the state-owned school became the University of Guanajuato.In 1953 the Entremeses Cervantinos which in 1972 evolved into the artistic and cultural event of Latin America, the International Cervantino Festival.


In 1988, UNESCO declared the city of Guanajuato as the Cultural Patrimony of Humanity.Historically and culturally, Guanajuato is one of the most unique cities of Mexico, surrounding its visitors with its antique constructions and emanated atmosphere.Mystery and awe await the visitor in Guanajuato.
